SHARJAH – Pakistan began their Tri-Nation T20I series by making a statement against Afghanistan by crushing the latter by 39 runs in an overpowering effort in the first match at Sharjah Cricket Stadium. This victory not only boosts their morale but also establishes a winning momentum as they look forward to the forthcoming Asia Cup 2025.
The overall score of 182/7 for the Pakistani team rested on a good batting performance. The innings were anchored by Captain Salman Ali Agha, who scored 53 off 36 balls, and brought the team out of an uncertain middle-order slump into the competitive zone. Pakistan fell to 83/4 in the middle overs, and it appeared that the innings was over, but a 50-run partnership with Mohammad Nawaz saw them revive.
Pakistan’s bowlers pushed the match beyond Afghanistan’s reach. Haris Rauf led from the front, bagging 4 wickets for 31 runs in just 3.5 overs—a spell that crushed the middle-order resistance.. Support came from Shaheen Shah Afridi, Sufiyan Muqeem, and Mohammad Nawaz, who picked up key wickets at crucial stages to halt Afghanistan’s chase.
Despite the initial setback, Afghanistan had displays of fighting. Ibrahim Zadran made efforts to even the score with a few confident hits, and Darwish Rasooli contributed with a few boundaries to keep the tally going. But frequent wickets did not enable their pursuit to take the entire flight. The bottom order was swinging hard to narrow the margin, but the self-disciplined bowling and the crisp fielding of Pakistan saw to it that Afghanistan was 39 runs short of the target.
This victory is a confidence booster, and it is an indication of the readiness of Pakistan. It is not only a tournament, but a rehearsal on the big stage, the Tri-Series. This performance shows Pakistan will arrive at the T20 Asia Cup 2025 battle-ready and confident.
It also depicts the successful collaboration: Salman looking calm, holding the bat, Rauf destroying at his pace, and coordinated fielding: all of that in the heat of Sharjah.
Having won this with a solid lead, Pakistan marches into the remaining part of the Tri-Series with confidence. It provides the chosen team with an opportunity to form combinations, work on batting order, and experiment with strategies. In the case of Afghanistan, the emphasis will probably be on regrouping-enhancing the middle-order resiliency, and creating winning partnerships.
The combination of calm, fire, and strategy was also evident in Pakistan. It is this type of performance which can spur a deeper drive at the tournaments- reminding fans that the struggle to become the best in Asia is, indeed, underway.
