Asian Junior Squash Championships Glory for Pakistan After Youth Contingent Bags Two Gold Medals
PANZHIHUA: Pakistan’s junior contingent returned with a strong medal haul from the Asian Junior Squash Championships, collecting five podium finishes across different age categories in China.
The standout performances came in the boys’ divisions, where Pakistan won 2 gold medals through Nauman Khan and Ahmad Rayyan Khalil. The results helped Pakistan finish the tournament with two gold, one silver and two bronze medals from a squad of eight players.
Nauman and Rayyan secure titles
Nauman Khan captured the Boys U-17 crown after defeating India’s Shiven Agarwal in four games. After dropping the opening game, the Pakistani player responded strongly to complete a 10-12, 11-7, 11-2, 11-5 victory in a match lasting 46 minutes.
In the Boys U-15 final, Ahmad Rayyan Khalil produced a straight-games win over Malaysia’s PNG Vidhurran Ruthiran. He closed out the contest 11-7, 11-3, 11-4 in under half an hour to secure Pakistan’s second title of the championship.
Silver and Bronze Medals Add to Pakistan tally
Pakistan also reached the final in the Girls U-15 event through Mahnoor Ali. She was edged out by China’s Ziyuan Yin in three close games, with the match ending 12-10, 11-9, 12-10 in the host player’s favour.
The national side added two bronze medals through Muhammad Umair Arif in the Boys U-17 category and Muhammad Sohail Adnan in the Boys U-15 event after both players reached the semifinal stage of their respective draws.
Elsewhere in the tournament, Abdullah Nawaz and Mustafa Khan advanced to the quarterfinals, while Sehrish Ali made it to the third round before exiting the competition.
Pakistan concluded the Asian Junior Squash Championships with one of their strongest recent junior performances, underlining the depth emerging in the country’s youth setup.
