Pakistan Set to Hand Three Players Test Debuts at Edgbaston

Pakistan are preparing for a significant reshuffle ahead of the final Test against England, with three players in contention to make their Test debuts at Edgbaston.

Wicketkeeper-batter Ghazi Ghori is the clearest name on the list. The 23-year-old Karachi-born player is expected to take his place in the XI after being included in Pakistan's squad for the West Indies and England assignments without getting an opportunity in the middle.

Ghori has now moved firmly into the spotlight. His inclusion would be one of the major talking points around the Pakistan vs England third Test, particularly with the visitors already having surrendered the series.

The second potential debutant is Muhammad Imran Randhawa. The 29-year-old all-rounder brings considerable first-class experience, having collected 2,255 runs, including two centuries, in 58 matches. His medium-fast bowling has also produced 110 wickets.

Pakistan could go even further with their changes.

If the team decides to field four specialist fast bowlers, 21-year-old Razaullah is in line for his first Test appearance. The right-arm pacer made his first-class debut for Peshawar in 2025 and has picked up 30 wickets from eight matches.

Arafat Minhas is another option, although his chances depend on the balance of the attack. The 21-year-old left-arm spinner has already played three ODIs and four T20Is for Pakistan and could be preferred if the selectors want one specialist spinner.

Saim Ayub, Aizaan Awais, Abdullah Shafique, Babar Azam as captain, Shan Masood, Saud Shakeel, Ghazi Ghori as wicketkeeper-batter, Mohammad Abbas, Mohammad Ali, Muhammad Imran Randhawa, Arafat Minhas and Razaullah.

The changes come after a brutal start to the series. England won the opener at Headingley by an innings and 103 runs, with Pakistan bowled out for 171 and 135 after England posted 409.

Lord's brought another heavy defeat. England won by 194 runs after setting Pakistan 389 to win, only for the visitors to collapse for 194.

Now, with the series already decided, Pakistan have little to lose by giving younger players a chance. The Ghazi Ghori Test debut could be the headline moment, but the selections around him will reveal how aggressively Pakistan want to rebuild their side at Edgbaston.

The final XI could therefore look very different when the Ghazi Ghori Test debut finally arrives.
