The group-stage game between Pakistan and Sri Lanka has been washed out, as intermittent rain in Colombo has affected yet another match. It has been a common story in this year’s Women’s World Cup, giving teams fewer opportunities to play with full freedom.

The Pakistan team specifically faced more problems due to this condition, as the majority of their games were scheduled at the R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium, Colombo.

With this washout, the Pakistan team will leave the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 without a win. This has been a disastrous campaign for the green shirts, as they lost all the matches in the tournament without showing any real fight.

On the other hand, Sri Lanka would be feeling disappointed as well. This was their last game in the tournament against a struggling team. They would have wanted to win this one to finish the tournament on a high note, however, the weather had other plans.

The game was halted at the start while Pakistan were batting in the first innings. They were going along nicely until rain arrived and brought an end to the play. Both teams were already out of semi-final contention, so the result wouldn’t have changed much.

However, their standing on the points table now becomes a bit more clear. Pakistan will remain at the bottom end of the points table, while Sri Lanka will end the tournament with five points, finishing above Pakistan and Bangladesh.

This year’s tournament could also be the last major event for Sri Lanka’s Chamari Athapaththu. She had hoped to lead her team to the final of the ICC Women’s World Cup, however, things didn’t go in her favor. She will now leave the tournament with a bit of regret, as reaching the semi-finals was one of her main goals.
