Farhan Takes T20I Captaincy as Pakistan Name Squads for Sri Lanka Series and ODI Tri-Series

Farhan Takes T20I Captaincy as Pakistan Name Squads for Sri Lanka Series and ODI Tri-Series

Sahibzada Farhan has been handed Pakistan’s T20I captaincy for the home series against Sri Lanka, replacing Salman Ali Agha, while Shaheen Shah Afridi will retain the ODI leadership for the upcoming tri-series with England and Sri Lanka. The PCB announced the two squads, with the first T20I scheduled for 9 October in Rawalpindi.

Farhan’s appointment comes after he captained Pakistan at the 2026 Asian Games, where the team won the silver medal. He will lead a 15-member T20I group that includes several players who featured in the Asian Games squad.

The selection also brings opportunities for players outside the established white-ball setup. Razaullah has been named in both squads after making an impression during the third Test against England, earning his first white-ball call-up. Muhammad Imran Randhawa has received his maiden T20I selection, while wicketkeeper Saad Baig has been added to the ODI group.

The Pakistan squad for T20Is against Sri Lanka does not include Salman Ali Agha, Babar Azam or Shaheen Afridi. Usman Khan and spinner Usman Tariq have also missed out, while several pacers who were part of the Asian Games group, including Ali Raza, Mohammad Wasim Jr, Akif Javed and Ahmed Daniyal, are absent.

Salman, Babar and Haris Rauf remain available for the ODI assignment. Shaheen will lead that side, which also features Saad Baig and Razaullah alongside the established core.
