Pakistan Shaheens vs England Lions Second Unofficial One Day Cancelled Due to Escalating Middle East Tensions
The second one-day match between the Pakistan Shaheens and England Lions has been cancelled due to escalating tensions in the Middle East. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed the news, emphasizing that the safety of all their personnel is a top priority during this time of crisis.
The England Lions men’s squad is currently in Abu Dhabi for a white-ball series against Pakistan Shaheens. They showcased completed domination in the T20 leg by winning all three matches. Afterwards, they also started the one-day leg on a high note by beating the Shaheens in a one-sided contest.
The second game of the series was scheduled for Sunday, but considering the current situation of the Middle East, a decision has been taken to call off that match.
"The safety and security of our teams and staff is our top priority. We are in contact with security experts and the Government in relation to current events in the Middle East, and are following official advice.” said the ECB spokesperson.
It was also said that the departure of the England Women’s team for their upcoming trip to Abu Dhabi has been delayed in light of the evolving situation.
"Tomorrow's second 50-over game between England Men's Lions and Pakistan Shaheens in Abu Dhabi will no longer go ahead, and we are delaying the departure of England Women for their proposed trip to Abu Dhabi next week.” said the ECB spokesperson.
"We will continue to monitor and assess the situation and official advice in relation to the future of these trips. England Men will travel to Mumbai for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup semi-final as planned." added the ECB spokesperson.
Meanwhile, the ICC has issued a separate statement saying that the ongoing situation in the Middle East is being closely monitored by the body. The ICC is therefore working with major international carriers to prepare plans to meet any contingency situation in the region.
