Pakistan Shaheens started their Asia Cup Rising Stars campaign with a crushing victory over Oman. The green shirts defeated the inexperienced Oman team by a big margin of 40 runs, with Maaz Sadaqat smashing 96* in the first innings of the match. His superlative innings gave Pakistan a huge total of 220 on the board, which ultimately proved too big to chase for the Oman team.
Batting first, Pakistan Shaheens didn’t have a great start, as they lost Mohammad Naeem quite early in the innings. This early loss didn’t put much pressure on Maaz Sadaqat, as he kept on playing positively alongside Yasir Khan in the Powerplay.
The aggressive batting of Maaz Sadaqat allowed Pakistan to maintain a high scoring rate throughout the innings. His knock of 96 runs gave Pakistan a commanding total on the board, with the captain, Irfan Khan Niazi, also contributing strongly with 44 runs.
When Oman came out to bat in the second innings, they looked very uncomfortable at the crease. Their young team never got going in the chase, as Pakistan picked regular wickets during the second innings to halt the charge of Oman batters. A strong contribution came only from Zikria Islam in the end, who added momentum to the Oman innings by scoring a quick-fire 57 off just 28 balls.
Pakistan eventually won the match in the end, as Oman managed to score just 180 runs in the second innings. This gave green shirts a big victory of 40 runs, helping them start their Asia Cup Rising Stars campaign on a strong note.
