Pakistan Hockey Set for Busy Six Months With Global Teams Arriving

Pakistan Hockey Set for Busy Six Months With Global Teams Arriving

Pakistan Hockey Federation president Mohyuddin Ahmed Wani has revealed plans for a series of international visits and domestic events that could bring regular high-level hockey back to the country over the coming months.

Speaking to Geo News, Wani said China are scheduled to tour Pakistan in November 2026 after Korea's visit. Canada are expected to follow, while three European teams have also indicated their readiness to travel to Pakistan.

The schedule gives the national sport a rare stretch of sustained international activity. Rather than a single tour, the PHF is looking at several visiting sides and events across the next six months.

For Pakistan hockey, getting foreign teams back on home soil carries significance beyond the matches themselves. Regular international fixtures give local players opportunities to face different playing styles and provide supporters with a chance to watch visiting sides in Pakistan.

The PHF is also looking further ahead. Wani said Pakistan plans to host a 10-nation international hockey event in December next year. A hockey league is also on the federation's plans for next year, adding a domestic competition to the international programme.

The international calendar, however, also comes with a separate issue.

Pakistan has asked the Asian Hockey Federation to shift the Asian Hockey Champions Trophy from India to a neutral venue. According to Wani, the decision rests with the AHF, which has yet to respond to the PHF's request.

The PHF president said the federation understands the tournament's rules and regulations but has made its position clear.

For international hockey teams in Pakistan, the coming months could therefore mark a noticeable change in the country's hockey landscape. China and Canada are set to be followed by European opposition, while the proposed 10-nation tournament would bring even more teams into the picture.

The bigger test will be turning a busy calendar into lasting momentum. For now, the PHF has put international exposure, a domestic league and a major tournament on the table.
