Salman Agha's Century Powers Pakistan to 305 Against Sri Lanka in ODI Tri-Series

Salman Agha's Century Powers Pakistan to 305 Against Sri Lanka in ODI Tri-Series

RAWALPINDI: A spectacular, counter-attacking century from middle-order maestro Salman Agha rescued Pakistan from an early collapse, powering the hosts to a commanding first-innings total in the opening encounter of the PAK vs SL ODI Tri-series at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.

Recovering from a precarious position, Pakistan scored 305 before being bowled out in 49.5 overs, setting Sri Lanka a challenging target on a true, good-paced surface.

Earlier in the day, newly appointed Sri Lankan captain Kusal Mendis won the toss and elected to field first, looking to exploit any initial moisture. The decision paid immediate dividends as Sri Lanka's disciplined pace attack dismantled Pakistan's top order.

Left-arm opener Saim Ayub fell early for just 7, while his partner Fakhar Zaman managed only 16. Though superstar Babar Azam looked solid during his steady 45 off 57 deliveries, his dismissal left the home team stuttering at 106/3 in 20 overs, shifting the momentum entirely to the visitors. Two overs later, Saad Baig also got out after scoring 39.

It was at this critical juncture that Salman Agha's century completely redefined the narrative of the match. Returning to international action with immense point-to-prove intent, the 32-year-old single-handedly took the attack back to the Sri Lankan bowling unit. Displaying excellent physical fitness and astute tactical awareness, he executed a perfect blend of aggressive boundary-hitting and hard-running between the wickets.

Agha found an able ally in debutant Hasan Nawaz, and the pair reconstructed the innings with a vital 97-run partnership for the fifth wicket. Nawaz compiled a gritty 37 off 49 balls, featuring two maximums, which allowed Agha to seamlessly anchor the back end of the innings.

Agha brought up his fourth ODl century in style, smashing consecutive boundaries off right-arm quick Asitha Fernando to reach the milestone off just 83 deliveries. He was eventually dismissed in the 47th over for a brilliant 107 off 90 balls, a masterful knock decorated with ten boundaries and a towering six.

Late cameos from skipper Shaheen Shah Afridi (13) pushed the total past the psychological 300-run barrier. For Sri Lanka, young quick Eshan Malinga was the standout performer with the ball. Utilizing a clever mix of slower variations and pinpoint yorkers in the death overs, Malinga ripped through the lower order to finish with impressive figures of 4 for 46 in 9.5 overs. Asitha Fernando also reaped rewards for his persistence, picking up 3 for 59.

With the pitch historically easing out under the lights in Rawalpindi, Sri Lanka faces a steep but reachable chase of 306 runs to kick off the tri-nation tournament with a victory.
