Mohammad Rizwan Fights to Keep Pakistan Alive on a Tense Pak vs Ban 2nd Test Day 4

Mohammad Rizwan Fights to Keep Pakistan Alive on a Tense Pak vs Ban 2nd Test Day 4

SYLHET: Bangladesh stand just three wickets away from a Test series sweep against Pakistan after a tense fourth day at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium ended with the hosts firmly in the driver’s seat. Chasing a record target of 437 runs in the fourth innings, Pakistan fought back with defensive resilience to finish the day at 316 for 7, leaving the match balanced on a knife-edge ahead of the final day.

The morning began with Bangladesh wrapping up their second innings for 390 runs. Veteran batsman Mushfiqur Rahim anchored the lower order with a stellar 137, reinforcing a target that surpassed any successful run-chase in Test cricket history.

Shan and Babar Provided Early Stability

Facing an uphill battle, Pakistan’s second innings started steadily before encountering a familiar batting collapse. Openers Azan Awais and Abdullah Fazal fell early to a persistent Bangladeshi spin attack spearheaded by Taijul Islam. Captain Shan Masood looked aggressive, executing fluent boundaries across the ground to score a fighting 71.

Masood partnered with Babar Azam (47) to revive the chase, constructing a crucial 92-run stand. However, the momentum violently shifted when Taijul Islam found the breakthrough. Islam dismissed Azam, setting off a rapid middle-order collapse that saw Pakistan slump from a safe 133 for 2 to a precarious 162 for 5. When Masood was caught off Taijul's bowling shortly after his fifty, Bangladesh appeared poised to wrap up the match before the evening session.

Pakistan's lower order had other plans. Mohammad Rizwan and Salman Agha joined forces to launch a courageous, counter-attacking rescue mission. The duo defied Bangladesh’s rotating bowling attack for hours, combining for a spectacular 134-run partnership.

Just as Pakistan threatened to completely pull themselves back into the match, Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto opted for the second new ball. The tactical decision paid immediate dividends through Taijul Islam. Operating with precision, Taijul extracted a sharp turn from the deteriorating Sylhet surface to dismiss Salman Agha for 71. Shortly after, the left-arm orthodox spinner trapped Hasan Ali to trigger late panic in the visitors' dugout, shifting Pakistan from 296 for 5 to 304 for 7.

Rizwan Stands As Pakistan's Last Hope in the Match

Despite the double blow, Mohammad Rizwan stood tall as Pakistan's ultimate shield. Rizwan finished the day unbeaten on 75, exhibiting impeccable composure alongside Sajid Khan (8*) to guide Pakistan safely to stumps without further damage.

Taijul Islam was the undisputed star for Bangladesh, finishing the day with exceptional figures of 4 for 113. With 121 runs required for victory and only three wickets in hand, Pakistan will face an astronomical challenge on Day 5.

Bangladesh remains the overwhelming favorite to secure the remaining wickets, eyeing a legendary 2-0 series victory over their rivals.
