Ollie Robinson Eyes England Return Ahead Of Busy Home Summer

Ollie Robinson Eyes England Return Ahead Of Busy Home Summer

England pacer Ollie Robinson is confident that he can return to the national squad after performing well in the recent domestic games. He said the recent conversations with the England coach and director were very positive, indicating that the door is still open for him.

Robinson has not played Test cricket for over two years. His last match came in England’s five-wicket loss to India in Ranchi in February 2024.

With Brydon Carse and Mark Wood currently injured, and senior pacers James Anderson, Chris Woakes, and Stuart Broad having retired, England now have gaps in their fast-bowling group going into a busy summer. This means that Robinson has an opportunity to lead the attack, provided he gets a call from the selectors for the upcoming series.

Talking about the schedule, England have two ICC World Test Championship series coming up against New Zealand and Pakistan, which could open the door for Robinson’s return.

Robinson also revealed that he has been in touch recently with England head coach Brendon McCullum and director of cricket Rob Key. He also feels his good form for Sussex in county cricket has helped his chances of getting picked again.

“I had a text from Baz (McCullum) at the start of the season, just to say that the door was still open, which was nice. Keysy (Key) rang me as well, to say 'take wickets, knock the door down' and there's still a spot for you.” said England pacer Ollie Robinson.

Robinson also revealed that Rob Key recently attended the Warwickshire game during which he applauded his bowling performance. It certainly gave a huge boost to his morale, which is why he is confident to wear the England shirt again.

“Keysy came down to the Warwickshire game at Hove and just texted me saying how well I bowled, how nice my rhythm looked. It was really nice to hear that from him.” said Ollie Robinson.

“For me, at the start of the season when I took the captaincy on, I didn't realise the door was still open. I thought it was closed. It's definitely spurred me on this season.” added Ollie Robinson.

Robinson then said that he is eager to perform well for England again, as it is the key objective currently on his radar.

“My mind is on cricket and nothing else. I've got the love for the game back. I probably feel more ready now than I did when I first got into the England team. And I've probably grown up a bit since then as well. Hopefully that all helps if I get the call.” said Ollie Robinson.
