Nahid Rana’s Fiery Five-Wicket Haul Puts Bangladesh in Control of NZ vs Ban 2nd ODI

Nahid Rana’s Fiery Five-Wicket Haul Puts Bangladesh in Control of NZ vs Ban 2nd ODI

MIRPUR: Nahid Rana’s fiery five-wicket haul and a composed top-order start have put Bangladesh in the driver’s seat to level the series. Bangladesh is now hunting down a 199-run target against New Zealand in the second ODI at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.

After the disappointment of a 26-run defeat in the series opener, the Tigers produced a clinical bowling performance to dismiss the Blackcaps for 198 in 48.4 overs.

Rana Rips Through the Blackcaps

The narrative of the first innings was dictated by young pace sensation Nahid Rana. On a surface that offered enough zip to reward disciplined fast bowling, Rana was relentless. He exploited the bounce and maintained a probing line that New Zealand’s middle order struggled to negotiate.

Rana finished with career-best figures of 5 for 32, a spell that effectively dismantled any hopes the visitors had of reaching a par score. His dismissal of the lower order ensured that New Zealand could not capitalize on the death overs, leaving their bowlers with a massive task to defend a sub-200 total.

Nick Kelly’s Solitary Resistance

New Zealand’s innings lacked rhythm from the outset. Having won the toss and elected to bat, the visitors found themselves in early trouble against the new ball. While several batters struggled to adapt to the Mirpur track, Nick Kelly stood as the lone warrior.

Kelly played a calculated knock of 83, providing the spine of the New Zealand innings. However, his departure triggered a final collapse, as the Blackcaps lost their last four wickets for a mere 34 runs. No other Kiwi batter managed to cross the 30-run mark.

Looking Ahead

A victory today would not only level the series at 1-1 but also shift the momentum significantly heading into the third ODI on April 23. For New Zealand, the focus will be on finding early wickets in the next hour to create a sense of panic in the Bangladesh dressing room. For the hosts, a calm head and a single substantial partnership will be enough to secure a vital win on home soil.
