Novak Djokovic defeated Jannik Sinner in a thrilling encounter to book a place in the Australian Open final. He will now face Carlos Alcaraz on Sunday, who is currently dominating the global tennis circuit with breathtaking performances. Fans are eagerly awaiting this clash, which will see two of the very best go head-to-head at Melbourne Park.
Novak Djokovic defeated Sinner in a nail-biting contest, as the Serbian knocked out the defending champion with a 3-6, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 win. The victory was crucial for Djokovic, as he had lost his previous five encounters against Sinner consecutively. Beating him in the all-important Australian Open semi-final felt special to Djokovic. However, a bigger challenge against Carlos Alcaraz awaits on Sunday.
Speaking about his feelings after the match, Novak Djokovic said that he is out of words, as defeating the dominant Jannik Sinner in the semi-final feels really surreal.
"I'm lost for words, to be honest. It feels surreal, playing over four hours, it's almost 2am. I am reminiscing about 2012 when I played Rafa [Nadal] in the finals - That was almost six hours, but the intensity and quality of tennis was extremely high, and that was the only chance I had against him,” said record Grand Slam winner, Novak Djokovic.
"He [Sinner] had won the last five matches against me. He had my mobile number, so I had to change my number for tonight!” added Novak Djokovic.
He then praised the performance of Jannik Sinner, describing him as one of the best players in the world who always performs with high intensity.
"Jokes aside, I told him at the next 'thanks for allowing me at least one'. I have tremendous respect for him. He is an incredible player and pushes you to the limit. He deserves a round of applause for his performance," concluded Novak Djokovic.
