The turmoil began when Mahmud and Jubair arrived at Sylhet for a final session ahead of Friday’s opening match against Chattogram Royals in BPL 2025/26, a fixture that would see two new franchises clash. Upon finding only a handful of practice balls, Mahmud immediately expressed his frustration.

"I will not work in the BPL under these circumstances. I have never seen this in the BPL before," Mahmud told reporters while leaving the venue. He added that he would not continue with the franchise under the existing conditions.

Despite efforts from team staff to calm the situation and assure better arrangements, the coaches initially remained firm.

Misunderstanding and Apology

Mahmud later returned to the stadium with Jubair, describing the incident as a “misunderstanding.”

"I think I may have overreacted in the moment. There were not enough facilities in training. I didn’t get the equipment I needed. That’s when I lost my temper. I think I behaved poorly at that instance. I want to thank the owners. I spoke to them. The BCB have also spoken to me," Mahmud said.

Noakhali Express, one of four new franchises this season, joins Chattogram Royals, whose ownership was recently taken over by the BCB after Triangle Services Limited withdrew, citing a lack of sponsorship.

These two crises have caused significant concern among the league’s administrators. Several high-ranking BCB officials were spotted at the stadium following the incidents, highlighting the urgency of the matter.
