“There is no guarantee that India and Pakistan will shake hands during their ICC Women's World Cup 2025 match on Sunday, October 5,” said Devajit Saikia, BCCI secretary.
The recently held Asia Cup came under scrutiny after India was criticized for ruining the game spirit by refusing to shake hands with the Pakistani side in all three matches.
Furthermore, after beating Pakistan in the final, they skipped the presentation ceremony and refused to accept the trophy from ACC President Mohsin Naqvi.
With Pakistan and India ready to face off again in the ICC Women's CWC on October 5, the question now is whether the women's squad will follow in the footsteps of the men's team in the ICC tournament.
Now, Saika has spoken out, claiming that India's stance against Pakistan has not changed.
“I cannot forecast anything, but our relationship with that country (Pakistan) remains the same, with no change in the past week,” Saikia said.
He added that India will play against Pakistan, citing MCC norms.
"India will play their match against Pakistan in Colombo, and all cricket procedures will be observed.”
I can assure you that all regulations outlined in the MCC cricket regulations will be strictly followed. "I can't promise you anything about handshakes or hugs right now," he further said.
Earlier, Indian writer Boria Majumdar commented on the Indian cricketers' plans to continue their rude conduct into the Women's World Cup.
"The India-Pakistan match in Colombo will be more than simply a cricket match. It will be another edition of the Asia Cup, with the only variation being gender," Majumdar said on X.
