Sent in to bat first, Hong Kong began brightly with openers Zeeshan Ali and Anshy Rath setting the tone. Zeeshan looked aggressive early on, striking 23 off 17 balls with two crisp boundaries before Sri Lanka’s Dushmantha Chameera removed him with the score at 41 in the fifth over.

The loss of Babar Hayat soon after, for just 4 runs, brought pressure back on Hong Kong, leaving them at 57-2. The innings, however, regained momentum with Nizakat Khan coming to the rescue of Rath in a stable but productive alliance. The two stitched 61 runs off 43 deliveries, and the score went to 118 when Rath left the ground after a well-played 48 off 46 balls, including four limits.

Nizakat was, as always, the star and continued to anchor the innings with calm yet fluent strokes. He made 52 out of 38 balls, interspersed with four fours and two sixes to make sure that Hong Kong crossed 140. All-rounder skipper Yasim Murtaza made a quick cameo, and Aizaz Khan remained unbeaten with Nizakat as Hong Kong closed with a score of 149/4 in their 20 overs.

In the case of Sri Lanka, Chameera took two wickets, while Wanindu Hasaranga and Dasun Shanaka claimed one each.

The disciplined batting performance has earned Hong Kong a fighting total they now have to focus on their bowlers to take on the challenge of defending 149 against a formidable Sri Lankan team.
