Nissanka Reveals Pressure Behind His T20 World Cup Hundred Against Australia

Pathum Nissanka stole the show when he smashed a superlative century against Australia in the latest ICC T20 World Cup clash. The Aussies certainly had no answers for Nissanka’s brilliance, as he played a knock that brought them to the brink of early elimination from the tournament.

After the match, Nissanka revealed the plan with which Sri Lanka started the chase in the second innings. He credited Kusal Mendis for providing an early burst, as it gave him some room to play his natural game.

"After we lost the first wicket, Kusal and I just planned to have a good powerplay. He got a good start and that made things easier for me. We thought that there would be some dew, so the plan was to bat normally until that arrived. After 12 overs we were going to take stock and one of us would make a charge." said Pathum Nissanka after the match.

Nissanka then revealed his main objective before the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. He said his goal was to score a century in the tournament, which luckily fulfilled in a high-pressure game against Australia.

"I had a big target to hit a 100 in this World Cup, so I'm happy I was able to do that. We had played a match on this wicket, and we knew it was good for batting. Because Kusal and I batted well also, Australia couldn't bowl so well to us." said Pathum Nissanka.

Nissanka also shared the plan with which he grabbed the stunner to dismiss Glen Maxwell, saying he wanted to redeem himself after dropping the first catch.

"After the first catch went down, I was disappointed because I knew we had to get his wicket. I made up my mind in that moment that I needed to do something special for the team. I thought he might play a reverse sweep in that moment and I was watching for it in the field. Fortunately I was able to complete the catch." added Pathum Nissanka.
