Nicholas Pooran’s bat spoke louder than words in Providence as he smashed an unbeaten 90 from 53 balls to propel Trinbago Knight Riders into CPL 2025 Qualifier 2. Backed by Alex Hales’ steady 54, the chase of 167 was wrapped comfortably, leaving Antigua and Barbuda Falcons knocked out.

The platform was laid by the bowlers. Saurabh Netravalkar (3 for 23) and Usman Tariq (2 for 19) squeezed the Falcons early, and despite a century stand between Amir Jangoo (55) and Andries Gous (61), the innings never took off. A late cameo from Shakib Al Hasan lifted them to 166, but it always felt under par.

Pooran, as he strikes the ball really well, did not waste any time. He showed intent from the first ball. Hales was equally supporting the team in the powerplay. Both Pooran and Hales got settled  and it was Pooran who turned on the fireworks. Eight sixes and a number of boundaries later, he sealed the win in style. This type of batting reminds everyone why he (Pooran) remains one of CPL 2025’s most dangerous finishers.

For Trinbago, the victory is more than just progress. The win keeps alive the dream of a record fifth CPL crown. For the Falcons, it was another night of frustration, undone by discipline with the ball and an inability to push the scores on board when it mattered most.
