Josh Mauro Dies at 35: Former NFL Defensive End Passes Away

Former National Football League defensive end Josh Mauro dies at 35, his family confirmed on Tuesday. Mauro, who played across eight NFL seasons, was best known for his time with the Arizona Cardinals, where he spent the largest portion of his professional career.

His father, Greg Mauro, announced the news through social media. No cause of death has been publicly released.

Mauro appeared in 80 NFL games between 2014 and 2021 and also represented the New York Giants, Oakland Raiders and Jacksonville Jaguars during his career. Born in St Albans while his father was working in the United Kingdom, Mauro later moved to the United States with his family during childhood.

Cardinals Pay Tribute

The Arizona Cardinals issued a statement following confirmation of Mauro’s death.

“We are heartbroken to learn of the passing of Josh Mauro,” the Cardinals said in a statement.

“Our thoughts are with his family, friends and all who knew him. We extend our deepest condolences to everyone grieving this loss.”

Mauro entered the NFL in 2014 and built a reputation as a reliable defensive player capable of filling multiple roles across the line. Although he never developed into a headline star, he remained a regular presence across several franchises and was regarded as a dependable squad member.

Former Teammates Remember Mauro

Tributes also came from former teammates and figures associated with the Cardinals organisation. Former player and executive Adrian Wilson reflected on Mauro’s professionalism and consistency during their time together under coach Bruce Arians.

“I had the opportunity to be around Josh for several years with [coach Bruce Arians],” Wilson added.

“[Josh was] always in shape, always ready to go wherever he got that call. One of the things I respected most about him, you could depend on him.”

Messages from across the NFL community continued to emerge following the announcement, with former teammates, coaches and supporters remembering Mauro for his work ethic and commitment throughout his career.
