Brazil’s Star Striker Neymar Closer to Full Fitness Ahead of FIFA World Cup 2026

Brazil’s Star Striker Neymar Closer to Full Fitness Ahead of FIFA World Cup 2026

Brazil have received a positive update ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026, with star forward Neymar Jr. making good progress in recovering from a recent calf injury, according to the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF).

The Santos striker has been out of action since picking up a grade-two muscle tear last month, which had raised doubts about whether he might miss the start of the tournament. Doctors had earlier suggested he could need around three weeks to recover, but it was still unclear if he would be fully ready as Brazil’s campaign approaches.

A recent medical check has now eased some of those worries. The CBF said Neymar’s recovery is going as planned, which has reduced concerns about his availability for Brazil’s early World Cup matches.

“The exam showed good progress in his treatment, within expected parameters. He will continue the recovery and physical preparation process planned by the Brazilian National Team’s medical staff.” the CBF said in an official statement.

Brazil are set to play their first Group C match against Morocco on June 13, but Neymar’s place in that game is still not certain and will depend on whether he gets full fitness clearance.

The former FC Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain star has had a tough time with injuries over the past couple of years. Back in October 2023, he suffered a major knee setback while on international duty against Uruguay, tearing ligaments that ruled him out for a long spell.

Since making his return to Brazilian club side Santos in 2025, Neymar’s fitness has seen various problems, but he is keen to be back on the pitch for Brazil at another World Cup.

With 79 goals in 128 matches for Brazil, Neymar is still the country’s top scorer and one of the most important players in the team.

As Brazil continues getting ready for the tournament, fans will be keeping a close eye on whether their star forward can recover in time to lead the five-time champions in another World Cup run.
