West Indies vs New Zealand 2nd ODI: Lennox Takes Five as West Indies Collapse to 138
West Indies once again faced a disappointing collapse after starting well, as Jayden Lennox’s stunning five-wicket haul wrapped up their innings on 138 in the 2nd ODI. They were looking to go past 250 after dominating the first Powerplay, but the Kiwi attack disrupted their plans by taking advantage of the spinning Providence conditions.
Batting first, West Indies got off to a great start in the first ten overs, as John Campbell played a fine knock of 43 to set an early tone. He played at a strike rate of 104 to give WI a fast start, hitting 4 fours and a six in the Powerplay.
However, after his dismissal, the batting plans of the home side completely fell apart. The middle order didn’t provide any contribution, as New Zealand took back-to-back wickets to regain the match control. They read the conditions perfectly and utilized spin from both ends to trouble the Windies batters.
Skipper Shai Hope failed to make any mark today, as he went back to the pavilion after scoring just 7 runs. Sherfane Rutherford and Keacy Carty also had disappointing outings, as neither managed to play any meaningful innings.
Amir Jangoo then tried to resist from one end, but he ran out of partners due to consistent Kiwi attack. As a result, he also lost his wicket after scoring 24 runs, ending the WI batting innings for just 138 runs.
From the bowling perspective, Jayden Lennox remained the star performer for the Black Caps by taking a five-wicket haul. Besides him, Michael Bracewell and Mitchell Santner also took two wickets each to skittle the West Indies batting lineup.
