It is an exciting night at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium as Bangladesh and the Netherlands fight in the final T20I. The visitors won the toss and decided to take first in the field, hoping that evening conditions would favor their bowlers.
It has been a charged air since the beginning. Fans were crowded in the stands, cheering every play, even when the play was temporarily halted by the rain and floodlight issues. It was not reduced even in the pauses.
The innings of Bangladesh started with Saif Hassan knocking briefly and swiftly before getting out. Then came Skipper Litton Das, who took charge, keeping the scoreboard moving. His time and clean cuts illuminated the ground, and he scored a fashionable half-century. Towhid Hridoy, however, never found his shape and was eventually dismissed after a slow innings at the crease. Shamim Hossain accompanied his captain and helped him create a steady partnership.
The Bangladesh team was well-placed at the midpoint as they were only two down off the bat, courtesy of the display of Litton. The crowd shouted at every goal line in complete support of their team.
The Netherlands bowlers tried but found it difficult on the opposite side. Kyle Klein took an early wicket but conceded runs, and Tim Pringle, with left arm spin, took out Hridoy at the right time. The other bowling unit struggled to keep Litton Das in line, who was in complete control.
Looking ahead, Bangladesh still has batting depth with Nurul Hasan, Mohammad Saifuddin, and Jaker Ali waiting. A big finish could put the Netherlands under real pressure. For the Dutch, dismissing Litton quickly will be key to staying in the game.
With the series on the line, every run and every wicket in Sylhet is adding to the drama.
