Nepal has done the unthinkable by beating West Indies in the second T20I at Sharjah. They defeated the young Caribbean team by 90 runs, courtesy of some high-quality bowling in the second innings. This victory has given Nepal cricket a renewed image at the international stage, as beating West Indies in such style is no small feat at all.
This was a must-win match for the West Indies, as they were already trailing in the series after losing the first game. They needed something special from the recently young Caribbean stars, however, Nepal didn’t allow them to do that.
Batting first, Nepal made a big total of 173 on the board. They came out with a simple plan in the first innings, however, got early shocks by losing quick wickets. This was the time when West Indies could have gripped the game tightly. Unfortunately, they couldn’t do that, as Aasif Sheikh made sure to keep Nepal ahead in the game.
The opener played like a rock in today’s game against West Indies. Despite losing early wickets, he remained firm at the end, ensuring not to lose his wicket cheaply. He played a commanding knock of 68 runs by smashing 8 fours and 2 sixes. This innings provided stability to the Nepal team, because earlier wickets had jolted their batting order.
Besides Aasif, Sundeep Jora also played a spectacular innings in today’s match against West Indies. He stood like a pillar with Aasif, ensuring to build a partnership during the middle phase of the game. Due to his solid hitting in the end, Nepal marched towards a strong total. He played a splendid knock of 63 runs by spanking 3 fours and 5 sixes in total.
When West Indies came out to bat in the second innings, they looked completely clueless from the very first over. The young team loaded with CPL stars didn’t understand the nature and pace of the Sharjah surface. They lost quick wickets in the Powerplay, which set back their batting plans early on. The rampant Nepal bowlers took advantage of the situation and kept on increasing pressure by bowling tight lengths.
The inexperienced West Indies lineup didn’t display much resistance, as Mohammad Aadil Alam ran through their middle order by showcasing complete dominance. Jason Holder tried to play some shots to push the pressure back, however, he also got out in the 17th over after making just 21 runs.
With Holder’s fall, the rest of the West Indies line up quickly summed up, and Nepal won the match by 90 runs. With this victory, they also sealed the historic T20I series in a grand fashion. This win is certainly a great achievement for the Nepal cricket, as it will help to announce themselves at the global stage where many other associate nations are making the mark quickly.
