The Multan Sultans have seized control of the chase against Quetta Gladiators, reaching the halfway mark of their innings in a commanding position. Chasing a target of 167 at the Gaddafi Stadium, the Sultans raced to 100/2 after 9 overs, needing just 67 more runs from the final 66 deliveries.
The opening pair of Sahibzada Farhan and Steven Smith provided a blistering start, dismantling the Gladiators' new-ball attack. Farhan, particularly aggressive, took a liking to Alzarri Joseph’s pace. The duo put on a 71-run opening stand before Joseph provided the breakthrough, trapping Sahibzada Farhan (32 off 14) in the 6th over.
However, the wicket failed to stem the flow of runs. Josh Philippe joined Steven Smith to keep the scoreboard ticking with busy running and a flurry of boundaries against the spinners. In the 8th over, Saud Shakeel got Phillippe’s wicket. He scored 18 off 15 deliveries.
Steven Smith is about to reach his half-century. Quetta’s captain, Saud Shakeel, has rotated five bowlers in an attempt to find a breakthrough, but the Sultans remain firmly in the driver's seat as they enter the death overs.
