Monty Desai has been appointed as the head coach of Canada men’s team. He is a highly respected coach who has worked with different emerging teams around the world including Nepal, Afghanistan and more others. Considering that, his appointment as Canada’s head coach is a right step that is expected to produce good results in the near future.
"Our foremost priority is to restore Cricket Canada's prominence through performance, professionalism, and a renewed and vitalized sense of purpose. Appointing Monty Desai reflects this vision.” said President of Cricket Canada, Arvinder Khosa.
“His experience with Associate nations, most notably Nepal and Afghanistan, demonstrates his ability to transform teams through effective leadership, discipline, and a clear long term plan.” added Arvinder Khosa.
Khosa further said that the Canadian team is moving in the right direction after appearing in the recent T20 World Cup. By appointing Monty Desai, they want to further accelerate this process and enhance their growth in the cricket world.
"As we build on our recent ICC Men's T20 World Cup appearance, this year marks a pivotal moment, and we are confident that under his leadership, the team will make significant progress." said Arvinder Khosa.
Speaking about the appointment, Monty Desai also expressed his excitement for the role. He said working with the Canadian team is a great opportunity, as it includes many rising talented cricketers.
"I am honoured to take on this responsibility and thank Cricket Canada for their trust. My previous experience in Canada has given me a clear understanding of the system's potential and the passion that exists for the game.” said Monty Desai.
“Associate cricket is an important driver in the global growth of cricket today, and teams like Nepal and Afghanistan have demonstrated what belief, discipline, and fearlessness can unlock.” added Monty Desai.
