Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan said that reports of the PCB fining players for underwhelming performances in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 are not fully confirmed. He added that nothing has been officially announced by the board, which is why commenting on such matters at this time would be inappropriate.
"Many people have asked me about this, and even players have been asked, but so far nothing official has come forward.” said Mohammad Rizwan while speaking to the reporters.
“If the PCB officially states that there is a fine of fifty lakh or that the management has imposed penalties, then I could comment on it. But since nothing official has been announced yet, and these reports have only appeared in the news." added Mohammad Rizwan.
He then took aim at the media for spreading such news when nothing is confirmed. Rizwan said that such claims often make him question the authenticity of several media reports.
"I can only say that such claims raise questions in my mind about how these things are being presented when nothing official has been issued." said Mohammad Rizwan.
When asked whether a player should be picked or dropped in one format based on the performance of another, Rizwan said that it is really unfortunate and should not be done. He believes the selection committee can answer this question better, as they are the ones who make such decisions.
"Such thoughts can come to anyone's mind, and perhaps they come to the minds of our people as well, that if a player is dropped from ODIs due to T20 performances," said Mohammad Rizwan.
"But, I believe the selection committee can answer this better, because they know the thinking behind such decisions. If I answer, I may not be fully aware of what happens in their meetings." added Mohammad Rizwan.
