Mohammad Nawaz Under PCB Investigation After Reported Recreational Substance Breach

Mohammad Nawaz Under PCB Investigation After Reported Recreational Substance Breach

Pakistan all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz is under investigation by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) following a reported positive test for a recreational substance. The development has led to the cancellation of his planned stint with Surrey County Cricket Club in the upcoming T20 Blast.

The PCB confirmed that the case was referred by the International Cricket Council (ICC), with disciplinary proceedings now underway. “The International Cricket Council has informed the Pakistan Cricket Board about this matter, and the PCB has begun the due process. The results of this process will be communicated to the ICC today,” a PCB spokesperson said.

T20 World Cup Sample Under Review

The matter is understood to be linked to samples collected during the recent ICC Men's T20 World Cup held in Sri Lanka and India. Nawaz was part of Pakistan’s campaign in the tournament, featuring in all seven matches as the side exited at the Super Eight stage. He contributed with both bat and ball, scoring 15 runs and taking seven wickets.

Surrey Deal Withdrawn

Nawaz had previously agreed to join Surrey for the T20 Blast, scheduled from late May to mid-July, after receiving a No-Objection Certificate from the PCB. The county side had been preparing to announce his signing before the latest development halted the move. Surrey have not issued any official comment following the withdrawal.

PSL Commitments Continue

Despite the ongoing investigation, Nawaz remains active in the Pakistan Super League with Multan Sultans. He last appeared in their recent win over RawalPindiz in Karachi, where he bowled three overs without taking a wicket.

The outcome of the PCB’s process is expected to determine the next steps regarding Nawaz’s availability for both domestic and international commitments.
