Amir's late spell turns the match in Trent Rockets' favour

Mohammad Amir produced another reminder of his value in pressure situations as Trent Rockets defended a modest total to defeat Trent Rockets vs Sunrisers Leeds by five runs in a dramatic finish on Sunday.

The Rockets never looked completely comfortable after choosing to bat, but they found early momentum through an aggressive stand between Ben Duckett and Aneurin Donald. Their partnership rescued the innings after Finn Allen departed cheaply and quickly shifted the pressure onto the Sunrisers attack.

Donald played with complete freedom, racing to 40 from only 19 deliveries. He punished anything loose and rattled the boundary rope several times before his entertaining knock came to an end. Duckett then picked up where his teammate left off, striking five successive boundaries during a fluent innings that appeared to set Trent Rockets for a much bigger total.

The closing stages told a different story.

Sunrisers pulled things back with disciplined bowling from Brydon Carse, Abrar Ahmed and Nathan Ellis. Their tight lines denied Sam Billings and Tim David the freedom to attack, restricting Trent Rockets to 146 for four after an explosive beginning.

Sunrisers fall short despite strong middle-order response

The chase stumbled immediately when Ryan Rickelton was dismissed without scoring, but Mitchell Marsh and Zak Crawley steadied the innings. Crawley found boundaries with ease while Marsh rotated the strike and kept the required rate within reach.

Harry Brook added fresh energy after Crawley's departure and briefly looked ready to carry Sunrisers home. His attacking approach placed Trent Rockets under growing pressure as the target edged closer.

The game shifted once Mohammad Amir was brought back into the attack. He first removed Mitchell Marsh before sending Harry Brook on his way, halting Sunrisers' charge and putting Trent Rockets back in command. 

Matt Henry and Lewis Gregory backed him up with calm, accurate bowling during the final overs. Sunrisers still fought until the final deliveries through Tom Alsop and Dan Lawrence, but they could not bridge the gap.

The result keeps Trent Rockets alone at the top of the competition and strengthens their push toward the knockout stage of The Hundred. For Trent Rockets vs Sunrisers Leeds, the difference came down to composure under pressure, and Amir once again proved why captains continue to trust him when the match hangs in the balance.
