Australia are ready for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 despite a challenging buildup to the tournament. The captain Mitchell Marsh admitted that Australia didn’t perform well in the last few T20I matches, however, he is confident that the team can turn things around in the upcoming mega event.
Speaking at the media briefing ahead of the T20 World Cup, he said the team was missing a few stars in the recent Pakistan series, which is why they couldn’t produce the required results. Marsh is hopeful that the team will now perform well in the tournament, as the recent training sessions together have been very great.
"Look, Pakistan was Pakistan. We had a few guys missing and we come here with a long lead-in and a good training session yesterday. So we will be very well-prepared for our first game." said Australian T20I captain, Mitchell Marsh.
When asked about the absence of Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc and Hazlewood from the squad, Marsh said the bowling lineup of the team is still very strong, as it can challenge any side in the T20 World Cup.
"One of the great things about Pat and Josh especially, all being three-format players, is that we've been able to build a lot of depth within our squad and the guys that have come in have played a lot of cricket for our group," said Mitchell Marsh.
"So we've got a lot of confidence in them to go out there and do the job when required and then we'll just pick teams based on the conditions.” added Mitchell Marsh.
He then said that Australia have played well over the past few months, so the team is confident of producing strong results in the mega event as well.
"Over the last 18 months, I feel we've been one of the most consistent sides in the world. We come to this World Cup really confident, knowing that conditions will be different at times, but we've got guys that have experienced that all over the world. So we look forward to the challenge of playing against everyone." concluded Mitchell Marsh.
