Mirra Andreeva Won French Open Title After Defeating Maja Chwalinska in Paris
Mirra Andreeva secured her first Grand Slam title on Saturday, defeating Maja Chwalinska 6-3, 6-2 in the French Open Women's Final at Roland Garros.
The victory made Andreeva the youngest women's singles champion in Paris since Monica Seles captured her third consecutive title in 1992. The Russian teenager also became the first player of her age group to lift the Suzanne Lenglen Cup since Iga Swiatek won the tournament in 2020.
Experience on the biggest stage proved decisive
The final featured two players competing in the biggest match of their careers, but Mirra Andreeva adapted more quickly to the occasion. While both players showed signs of tension early on, the Russian settled into longer rallies and began dictating play from the baseline as the contest progressed.
Mirra Andreeva defeats Maja Chwalinska by maintaining consistent pressure in key moments, particularly on return games. Once she gained control of the opening set, she rarely allowed her opponent to build sustained momentum.
For Chwalinska, the final capped a breakthrough fortnight. The Polish qualifier entered the main draw through qualifying and produced a series of impressive performances to reach the championship match, becoming one of the standout stories of the tournament.
Turning point arrives midway through opening set
The contest remained evenly balanced through the opening exchanges, with neither player able to establish a clear advantage. That changed midway through the first set when Andreeva tightened her groundstrokes and began forcing errors from the opposite side of the net.
After taking the first set, the Russian carried that momentum into the second. An early service break put her in command, and she continued to create opportunities on return despite a brief response from Chwalinska.
The Polish player reduced the deficit late in the match, but Andreeva remained composed and closed out the encounter in straight sets to complete a landmark victory.
Historic milestone for Andreeva
The result marks the biggest achievement of Andreeva's career to date and adds her name to a select group of teenage champions at Roland Garros. The title also crowns a strong tournament in which she consistently handled high-pressure matches against experienced opponents.
For Chwalinska, the defeat ends a memorable run in Paris, where she won nine consecutive matches from qualifying through to the final and established herself as one of the emerging players on the WTA Tour.
