Bosch, Hendricks Power MI Cape Town to Narrow Win Over Sunrisers Eastern Cape

MI Cape Town won a close game against Sunrisers Eastern Cape, as Corbin Bosch remained their star performer. They chased down a tricky target of 140 runs in the last over for the loss of seven wickets.

By winning this game, MI Cape Town has kept their hopes alive in the SA20 2026 season, although their pathway ahead is still very difficult.

Sunrisers Eastern Cape started the batting innings on a poor note, as Trent Boult dismissed Quinton de Kock on the very first ball. This early wicket was a huge blow for the Sunrisers camp, but a counterattack by Jonny Bairstow and Matthew Breetzke again put the pressure on MI Cape Town.

Jonny Bairstow played with a positive intent, showcasing his wide range of shots and ability to hit any length. He made a quick 15 runs, before Kagiso Rabada dismissed him in the 4th over. Soon after his wicket, Matthew Breetzke was also dismissed by Corbin Bosch in the last over of the Powerplay.

The middle order of Sunrisers Eastern Cape then tried to bring stability in the innings, but MI Cape Town kept pressure on them by taking regular wickets. A late push by Marco Jansen then allowed Sunrisers to post a respectable total of 139 on the board. He also remained the most notable performer for Sunrisers by smashing 42 off just 23 balls in the first innings.

MI Cape Town started their chase with a cautious approach. They tried to keep wickets in hand, but a brilliant opening spell by Marco Jensen eventually removed their openers. The incoming batter, Reeza Hendricks, then played steadily to take the innings forward. His sensible knock allowed MI Cape Town to stay in the contest, as other batters kept losing their wickets.

Due to Hendrick’s fighting knock of 41 runs, MI Cape Town went deep into the innings and chased down the target in the last over. It was definitely a close win that allowed MI Cape Town to finally get over the line after losing seven wickets.
