On Monday, Australia's wicket-keeper batsman Matthew Wade was handed an official reprimand for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct.
The unfortunate incident took place in the highly anticipated Aus vs Eng encounter on 9th June at the Kensington Oval, Barbados.
The left-handed batter played a delivery from Adil Rashid back to the bowler, expecting the umpire to call it a ‘dead ball.’ However, the umpire did not make the call upon which Wade got furious and argued with on-field umpire Nitin Menon over the decision.
According to ICC, “The wicket-keeper batter was found in breach of Article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “showing dissent at an Umpire’s decision during an International Match.”
After this unpredictable heated argument between Wade and the umpire, one demerit point has been added to Wade’s disciplinary record. It was his first offense in a 24-month period.
All four umpires including the two off-field umpires made the call against Matthew Wade.
There was no formal hearing as Wade easily accepted the charge and the sanction proposed by Andy Pycroft of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees.
Despite the hiccup, Australia managed to score a total of 201 for the loss of seven wickets, whereas England could only manage 165/6 in the allotted 20 overs.
