Marsh and Head Shine as Australia Post 181 Against Sri Lanka in T20 World Cup

Marsh and Head Shine as Australia Post 181 Against Sri Lanka in T20 World Cup

Captain Mitchell Marsh struck 54 off 27 balls, smashing 8 fours and 2 sixes, while Travis Head contributed 56 off 29 deliveries with 7 boundaries and 3 maximums. Together, the pair stitched a quick 50-run stand in just 30 balls, giving Australia a flying start in the Australia vs Sri Lanka clash.

Australia continued to dominate in the powerplay, reaching 70/0 by the end of the first six overs. By the 8.2-over mark, Australia had already crossed 100 runs, with both Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head registering quick half-centuries. They played aggressively, setting the tone for the innings.

Towards the end of the innings, Sri Lankan bowlers worked extra hard. Dushan Hemantha and Chameera Dushmantha got three and two wickets respectively. Maheesh Theekshana and Kamindu Mendis also took one wicket each, but were unable to prevent the momentum of Australia.

The powerplay by the Australian dominant openers, who had scored 50 runs in five overs, gave good grounds for the kind of game that was about to take place. The aggressive strokeplay of Marsh and Head exploited the cramped dimensions and the elevation at Pallekele and left Sri Lanka on the back foot at the very outset.
