Walter, Seifert and Atkinson Star as Manchester Super Giants Defeat Southern Brave in The Hundred 2026
Southern Brave are out of the race for a place in the knockout stages of The Hundred 2026 after suffering a 10-run defeat to Manchester Super Giants in Southampton.
The win took Super Giants to 16 points, putting them level with Sunrisers Leeds, MI London and Welsh Fire. All four teams will now fight for the remaining two knockout places, while Trent Rockets became the first team to qualify earlier in the day.
Super Giants got off to a strong start after being asked to bat first, with openers Tim Seifert and Paul Walter putting together a solid opening stand.
Walter was playing only his second game of the tournament after Aiden Markram pulled out for personal reasons. He started quickly, hitting three boundaries in the second set bowled by Luke Wood.
The Essex all-rounder reached his fifty from 26 balls, while Seifert followed soon after. The New Zealand batter brought up his third half-century of the season from 30 balls as Super Giants moved to 119 without losing a wicket after 62 balls.
However, their innings soon fell apart. Walter was caught by Chris Jordan off Nikhil Chaudhary for 64, starting a major collapse. Super Giants then lost eight wickets for only 30 runs from 37 balls, ending their innings on 149-8.
Southern Brave made a poor start in the chase, losing opener Michael Pepper for a duck. Jamie Smith and Tristan Stubbs then put on 54 runs for the second wicket, although they struggled to score quickly.
Smith made 26 from 25 balls before he was dismissed, while Moeen Ali was sent back without adding to the score.
Stubbs kept the innings going and completed his half-century from 37 balls. However, Brave needed 37 runs from the last 10 balls to stay in the knockout race.
Josh Tongue then conceded 19 runs in the next set, while Nikhil Chaudhary added 14 to leave the game needing a big finish. Unfortunately, Brave could not get over the line, as their innings was wrapped up on 139. It was certainly a disappointing performance from them, which has now ended their hopes of proceeding ahead in the tournament.
