"I Haven't Felt Like This for Five Years" – Magda Linette Beats Iga Swiatek in Stunning Miami Open Upset

"I Haven't Felt Like This for Five Years" – Magda Linette Beats Iga Swiatek in Stunning Miami Open Upset

Magda Linette produced one of the early surprises of the Miami Open after defeating second seed Iga Swiatek in three sets on Thursday. Linette recovered from a one-sided opening set to secure a 1-6, 7-5, 6-3 win and advance to the next round.

Swiatek began strongly and dominated the first set with consistent serving and early breaks. She extended her record of opening-round success, having won 73 consecutive matches at this stage on the WTA Tour since the 2021 WTA Finals.

Match Turns After Second-Set Response

The momentum shifted in the second set as Linette improved her service games and capitalised on a key break. She maintained composure in the closing stages to level the match.

In the deciding set, Linette moved ahead with an early advantage and built a lead that forced Swiatek to chase the contest. The second seed managed to reduce the gap late on, saving multiple match points, but Linette converted her fourth opportunity to close out the match.

Swiatek Reflects on Performance

Swiatek acknowledged her dip in form after the opening set.

"It just was a bad match for me in the second and third sets," she said. "I need to work to get back from that, because I haven't felt things like that for like five years."

Linette’s win continues a strong run at the tournament, following another comeback victory in her opening match. She will next face Alexandra Eala.
