Mady Villiers Stars in Durham's Victory with Century and Three-Wicket Haul

Mady Villiers Stars in Durham's Victory with Century and Three-Wicket Haul

Mady Villiers delivered an exceptional all-round performance to lead Durham to a thrilling five-wicket victory against Warwickshire in the Metro Bank One-Day Cup at Edgbaston.

Villiers not only took three crucial wickets but also scored an impressive century to guide her team past Warwickshire's competitive total of 289 for 6.

Warwickshire Sets a Challenging Target

After choosing to bat, Warwickshire’s innings got off to a rocky start when Davina Perrin was dropped on zero by Katherine Fraser off Villiers. The mistake proved costly, as Perrin went on to score 69 runs from 105 balls.

Along with Charis Pavely, who contributed 55 from 59 balls, and Nat Wraith, who made 54, Warwickshire built a solid total. Despite losing two quick wickets, the partnership between Perrin and Pavely of 108 runs in 19 overs helped propel Warwickshire to a challenging score.

The Bears’ innings faced a setback when Pavely was run out, and Perrin soon followed. However, Wraith and Chloe Brewer added 79 runs in 11 overs before Wraith was dismissed by Katie Levick, taking the score to 289 for 6.

Villiers Takes Charge with Bat and Ball

Durham’s chase started poorly as Alexa Stonehouse took two early wickets, dismissing Marlow and Armitage. However, Villiers and Tahlia Wilson steadied the ship with a partnership of 58 runs. Villiers was in dominant form, reaching her half-century off 53 balls, and then accelerating to 100 in just 32 more balls. When she was dismissed for 106, Durham still needed 40 runs to win.

Windsor and Thompson Seal the Win

Emily Windsor, with a composed unbeaten 85 from 83 balls, partnered with Bess Heath to take Durham to the brink of victory. The pair added 67 runs in 10 overs before Heath was dismissed, but Windsor and Grace Thompson, who scored 30 not out from 22 balls, completed the job.

The sixth-wicket partnership remained unbroken, with Windsor and Thompson adding 66 runs in just 40 balls to secure the win for Durham.
