Liverpool Open Minority Stake Talks With Investor Amit Bhatia
Liverpool could soon welcome another high-profile investor as Fenway Sports Group begins discussions over a potential minority share sale.
The latest development centers on Amit Bhatia Liverpool negotiations, with the British-Indian businessman leading a consortium interested in securing a stake in the Premier League giants. Fenway Sports Group confirmed that an approach had been made, although discussions remain at an early stage and no agreement has been finalized.
The Financial Times reported that advisers are already working alongside Bhatia's consortium. The proposed investment could place Liverpool's valuation above $6 billion, underlining the club's growing commercial strength following another successful period on and off the pitch.
Timing has made the story even more intriguing.
Within hours of the news emerging, Bhatia stepped down as director and co-owner of Championship side Queens Park Rangers after nearly two decades at the club. His ownership interest will now pass to majority shareholder Ruben Gnanalingam, bringing an end to a long association in west London.
Bhatia thanked players, staff, board members and supporters in a farewell statement, saying his years with QPR would always remain a proud chapter for his family.
Investment strategy continues under Fenway Sports Group
The Liverpool minority stake discussions fit a broader strategy that Fenway Sports Group has pursued over recent years. Rather than seeking a full sale, the ownership group has explored strategic partnerships capable of strengthening Liverpool's financial position while keeping operational control.
Back in 2023, FSG sold a minority share to sports investment firm Dynasty in a deal reportedly worth between $100 million and $200 million. Another investment would provide additional resources as Liverpool continue competing for major trophies while expanding commercial opportunities across global markets.
The Amit Bhatia Liverpool proposal has already sparked debate among supporters, particularly because of Bhatia's previous ownership ties with another English club. Even so, there is no indication that negotiations have reached an advanced stage.
For now, Liverpool remain focused on preparations for the new campaign while talks continue behind the scenes. Whether those discussions lead to another landmark investment remains uncertain, but the possibility has already become one of football's biggest boardroom stories this week.
