Liverpool strengthened their place in the Premier League top five with a 2-0 win over Fulham at Anfield. It was a strong performance from them that left the visitors completely clueless on the field.
Before the match, much of the talk was about Andrew Robertson’s confirmed exit at the end of the season, and he was also involved early on in the game.
He tried a shot from outside the box, but Harry Wilson made a brave block. Moments later, Mohamed Salah also tested Bernd Leno from a tight angle, but the keeper saved it well.
Liverpool kept pushing and almost broke through after 20 minutes when Cody Gakpo’s effort from the edge of the box went just wide of the post.
Fulham started to settle into the game as the first half went on and began to look more dangerous. Giorgi Mamardashvili in the Liverpool goal had to make two quick saves, first denying Alex Iwobi and then Oscar Bobb. Soon after that, Harry Wilson came close but his curling effort landed on the roof of the net.
Those missed chances proved costly before half-time. Rio Ngumoha then showed great skill inside the box and curled a fine finish into the far corner.
To make things worse for Fulham, Mohamed Salah added another before the break, finishing in a similar way to leave Marco Silva’s side with a tough task in the second half.
Fulham tried their best to make a comeback into the game, but Liverpool’s strong defence didn’t give them any chance to find a breakthrough. As a result, they lost the contest by 2-0, helping Liverpool to secure fifth spot on the Premier League points table.
Things are now looking better for Liverpool as they head into their midweek UEFA Champions League match against PSG after a strong result. They will need to match that kind of score again if they want any chance of moving forward.
