Liverpool moved up to fourth in the Premier League after beating Crystal Palace 3-1 on Saturday. First-half goals from Alexander Isak and Andy Robertson gave them control of the game, while third-choice goalkeeper Freddie Woodman made several big saves to keep them ahead. Florian Wirtz then sealed the win late on in stoppage time.
However, the win came with a concern as Mohamed Salah picked up an injury that could keep him out for the final weeks of his Liverpool career.
The game started slowly, with Liverpool fans protesting against planned ticket price increases. The hosts were given a penalty after Salah went down, but VAR showed Brennan Johnson had won the ball, so the decision was overturned.
That moment lifted Liverpool, and Isak opened the scoring with only his third league goal of the season. He reacted quickly to control Alexis Mac Allister’s mishit shot, turned, and finished past Dean Henderson.
Crystal Palace tried to respond, but Woodman made two good saves to deny Jean-Philippe Mateta. The second save led to a quick counter, and Robertson finished it off with a strong shot into the bottom corner.
Woodman continued to impress before halftime with another save to stop Maxence Lacroix. But just before the hour mark, Salah had to go off with a hamstring injury, which took some shine off the performance.
Crystal Palace got one back in a controversial moment. Daniel Munoz scored into an empty net after Woodman got injured while saving a shot from Ismaila Sarr. That made things tense, and substitute Jorgen Strand Larsen even hit the post.
Liverpool managed to hold on, and Wirtz’s late goal in front of the Kop confirmed the win. The result helped Arne Slot’s side move ahead of Aston Villa and stay eight points clear of sixth-placed Brighton in the race for Champions League spots.
