Lionel Messi Reaches Another World Cup Milestone with Historic Scoring Streak

Lionel Messi continues to rewrite football history. The Argentine icon became the first player ever to score in seven consecutive FIFA World Cup matches after finding the net during Argentina's 3-1 victory over Jordan in their final Group J fixture.

Although he started the match on the bench after recently celebrating his 39th birthday, Messi made an immediate impact when he entered the second half. In the closing stages of the game, he calmly curled a free kick into the corner of the net, giving Argentina their third goal and adding another unforgettable moment to his extraordinary World Cup career.

The strike pushed Messi's World Cup goal tally to 19, extending his lead as the highest goalscorer in tournament history. His remarkable scoring run began during Argentina's successful 2022 World Cup campaign and has continued throughout the 2026 tournament, making him the first player to score in seven straight World Cup matches.

Before Messi's achievement, the record of scoring in six consecutive World Cup games was shared by France's Just Fontaine and Brazil legend Jairzinho. The Argentine captain has now moved ahead of both, setting a new benchmark that may stand for years.

Argentina, despite making several changes to its starting lineup, controlled much of the contest. Giovani Lo Celso opened the scoring before Lautaro Martínez added a penalty, while Jordan briefly reduced the deficit through Mousa Al-Tamari. Messi's late free kick sealed the victory and ensured Argentina finished the group stage with three wins from three matches.

Head coach Lionel Scaloni praised his squad for maintaining a high standard despite rotating players, highlighting the importance of keeping every member of the team ready for the knockout rounds. He also applauded Messi's influence, noting that the veteran forward continues to inspire the team with both his performances and leadership.

The reigning world champions now shift their focus to the Round of 32, where they will face Cape Verde. With Messi producing record-breaking performances once again, Argentina enters the knockout stage as one of the tournament's strongest contenders.
