Lionel Messi Avoids Major Injury and Remains Fit for FIFA World Cup 2026
Argentina superstar Lionel Messi has avoided a serious injury concern, as Inter Miami recently revealed that he only felt discomfort in his left hamstring during the Philadelphia Union clash. This means that Messi would be available for Argentina’s World Cup opener, provided no new fitness issues arise in time.
In the latest Inter Miami match, Messi came off the pitch suddenly before Luis Suárez scored his third goal of the night as the MLS champions beat bottom-placed Philadelphia Union 6-4 on Sunday.
Messi provided two assists, while German Berterame scored twice in a first half that set a new record for Inter Miami.
However, Messi came off the field in the 71st minute and was seen holding his left hamstring at least once. He also did not walk toward the Inter Miami bench when he was due to be substituted.
Messi was subbed off for Mateo Silvetti and then walked straight down the tunnel to the dressing room. He left the pitch on his own, moving slowly, and there were no medical staff with him.
Rodrigo De Paul then scored in stoppage time to wrap up a commanding win for Inter Miami. Interestingly, rain started early in the second half, and some players looked like they were slipping on the pitch. It’s still not clear if Messi’s exit was just a precaution, and he didn’t appear to suffer any obvious slip during the heaviest rain.
However, as per the latest update, the Argentine superstar is fully fit and raring to go in the World Cup with the aim of defending the title. This is certainly good news for all the fans who became a little concerned after the recent incident. Messi is arguably the biggest superstar in the Argentine football lineup, so his availability is considered important for them to perform well in the tournament.
