LeBron James Sets New NBA Field Goal Record Despite Lakers’ 120-113 Defeat to Nuggets

LeBron James Sets New NBA Field Goal Record Despite Lakers’ 120-113 Defeat to Nuggets

Another chapter was written in the remarkable career of LeBron James on Thursday as he became the player with the most field goals in NBA history. The milestone came during the Los Angeles Lakers clash with the Denver Nuggets, although the night ended in disappointment for the Lakers with a 120-113 defeat.

James surpassed the previous mark held by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, whose tally stood at 15,837 field goals. The record-breaking moment arrived early in the first quarter when James knocked down a trademark fadeaway jumper to move past the legendary center.

The 41-year-old has now completed a record 23 seasons in the NBA, further strengthening his reputation as one of the most durable and dominant players in basketball history.

Despite reaching the milestone, James endured a difficult evening on the court. He finished the game with 16 points and appeared to suffer a left elbow injury during the fourth quarter. The incident occurred after he was pushed off the court and landed awkwardly on the legs of a courtside cameraman.

Play was briefly stopped as James headed to the bench, raising concerns among Lakers fans. Although he later returned for the final two minutes of the game, he was clearly struggling with discomfort.

While James’ record dominated headlines, the Nuggets maintained control of the game from start to finish. The Lakers attempted a late comeback and managed to close the gap to just one point with two minutes remaining, but Denver held their nerve to secure the victory.

Denver’s success was powered by another brilliant performance from Nikola Jokic, who delivered a triple-double with 28 points, 13 assists and 12 rebounds.

“They’re a difficult team to beat,” said Jokic. “We scored when we needed to.”

The result could have major implications for the Western Conference playoff race. The Lakers currently occupy sixth place, the final automatic playoff spot, sitting just behind the Nuggets. Meanwhile, the Phoenix Suns remain two games behind after suffering a 105-103 loss to the Chicago Bulls.

James already owns the NBA’s all-time scoring record with over 43,000 points, nearly 5,000 ahead of Abdul-Jabbar. He first surpassed the legendary center’s scoring milestone in 2023.

Although Abdul-Jabbar played much of his career before the three-point line existed, James’ latest achievement further highlights his incredible longevity and scoring ability in the NBA.
