Lamine Yamal Set to Play FIFA World Cup After Positive Update in Injury Recovery

Lamine Yamal Set to Play FIFA World Cup After Positive Update in Injury Recovery

Rising Spanish forward Lamine Yamal is set to feature in the FIFA World Cup 2026, as his recovery from injury is currently on track. Along with him, Nico Williams is also expected to be fit for the mega event, coach Luis de la Fuente revealed while speaking to the reporters.

For the unversed, Yamal and Williams were both sidelined at the end of the club season with hamstring problems, but De la Fuente still named them in his World Cup squad. Speaking to reporters last month, Fuente said he is confident that both will recover in time for the tournament.

Talking about the FIFA World Cup fixtures, Spain will start their Group H campaign on June 15 against Cape Verde in Atlanta.

“We are perfectly coordinated with the clubs, we are giving them continuation in a programme that was established some time ago and the truth is that the players are improving every day,” said Spain head coach Luis de la Fuente.

Fuente also said that players are currently progressing right according to the expectations, however, the team will not rush with their inclusion in the upcoming World Cup warm-up clash against Iraq.

Speaking specifically about Lamine Yamal, Fuente said the youngster is progressing perfectly, but his place in the tournament will depend on the final fitness report.

“If everything continues as it has been so far, he could be ready on June 15, but that doesn’t guarantee that he will play.” said Spain head coach Luis de la Fuente.

Spain are currently seen as strong favorites to win the upcoming tournament, but de la Fuente said the World Cup is a high-pressure event in which any team can lift the title.

“Historic because it is the World Cup in which most teams have a realistic prospect of winning”. said Spain head coach Luis de la Fuente.

Speaking about the fixtures, Spain will face Saudi Arabia on June 21 after playing the World Cup opener against Cape Verde. They will end their group stage campaign with a clash against Uruguay on June 27, which is expected to be a thrilling contest.
