Islamabad: Day one of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2025 match between Lahore Region Whites and Sialkot Region saw an exciting clash. Sialkot’s batting line-up didn't stand strong in front of Lahore White's bowlers.
Lahore Whites won the toss and decided to bowl first. This is quite a sensible decision that has been found effective for them. Sialkot's batsmen struggled to build momentum against a disciplined Lahore attack. While Mohsin Riaz’s 76 and Ayaz Tasawar’s 52 provided them a bit of relief, their partnership of 108 for the fourth wicket was the only bright spot in this innings. Once the pair got out, Sialkot's middle and lower order collapsed. Surprisingly, they lost seven wickets for just 50 runs, posting a total of 222 in 70.5 overs.
For Lahore, Haseeb-ur-Rehman bowled exceptionally well with 4 for 47, while Mohammad Abbas provided crucial breakthroughs with 2 wickets for 44 runs. Their line and length ensured Sialkot never looked comfortable. Will they continue this in the 2nd innings too? This will be interesting to watch.
Sialkot, being a strong team, created challenges for Lahore White's batters. Lahore Region Whites lost two wickets quickly. However, they managed to steady the innings by stumps at 38 for 2 in nine overs. Will they take the lead on day 2? Well, it seems that Sialkot bowlers have some plan for this.
Opener Abid Ali, unbeaten on 14, and nightwatchman Ubaid Shah, batting on 4, provided a cautious yet promising start. Sialkot’s Mohammad Ali accounted for one of the early wickets, but Lahore showed the kind of composure that could put them in a commanding position if they build partnerships tomorrow.
With Sialkot’s total modest and the pitch offering assistance to both spin and seam, Day 2 promises a critical session. Lahore will look to chip away at the deficit and possibly take a lead, while Sialkot will hope to strike early and regain control of a game that has so far tilted in favor of the Whites.
