Lahore Whites registered a comfortable victory over Peshawar in the National T20 Cup opener. They registered a thumping win by 6 wickets, as Farhan Yousaf’s brilliant half-century in the second innings led the chase of Lahore Whites.
Batting first, Peshawar Region started the innings confidently, as Abuzar Tariq and Yasir Khan took advantage of the field restrictions to score quickly in the Powerplay. Aamer Jamal then produced the first breakthrough for Lahore Whites by removing Abuzar Tariq for 26 runs.
The dismissal of Tariq brought Mohammad Haris to the crease who also lost his wicket quickly after scoring just 12 runs. This created a lot of pressure on the Peshawar batting, however, Yasir Khan stood firmly at one end.
The partnership between Yasir Khan and Waqar Ahmed in the middle overs brought some stability in Peshawar’s innings. However, it didn’t last long, as Rameez Jnr dismissed Waqar for 28 runs, giving Lahore Whites an edge in the match.
Meanwhile, Yasir Khan kept playing his shots to take the scoreboard forward, as his knock of 65 runs was the real positive for Peshawar in the first innings. Their middle order didn’t put up any fight, as Lahore Whites took wickets regularly to keep pressure on them. Due to that, Peshawar Region managed to score just 167 in the first innings, as Aamer Jamal starred for Lahore by taking three wickets.
When Lahore Whites came out to chase the target, they endured a horrible start, as Mohammad Faiq and Imran Dogar lost their wickets quickly in the Powerplay. The opener Muhammad Akhlaq then tried to counterattack with Tayyab Tahir, but the latter also lost his wicket after scoring 17 runs.
Farhan Yousaf then came to the crease at number four, and immediately made an impact for Lahore Whites. His partnership with Muhammad Akhlaq proved to be very crucial, as both players took the attack back to the Peshawar team. Muhammad Akhlaq went back to the pavilion after scoring a fifty, but Farhan kept playing aggressively to take the chase forward. Due to his belligerent 61 off 31 balls, Lahore Whites completed the chase inside 17 overs while losing just 4 wickets. It was indeed a dominating performance from Lahore that helped them to win the tournament opener convincingly.
