Marnus Labuschagne Joins Hyderabad Houston Kingsmen as Captain for PSL 11 Debut

Marnus Labuschagne Joins Hyderabad Houston Kingsmen as Captain for PSL 11 Debut

KARACHI: Australia batter Marnus Labuschagne will lead debut franchise Hyderabad Houston Kingsmen in the upcoming season of the Pakistan Super League after the team confirmed his appointment ahead of PSL 2026, which runs from March 26 to May 3.

The franchise revealed the decision through its official social media channels with a short promotional video announcing Labuschagne as captain. The right-hander had already joined the squad as a direct signing before last month’s players’ draft, though the financial details of the deal were not disclosed.

Labuschagne, a regular member of Australia’s Test and ODI setups since making his international debut against Pakistan in 2018, has limited exposure in the shortest international format. His only T20I appearance came against Pakistan in 2022. Despite his reputation as a reliable top-order batter in longer formats, his T20 record has been modest, with 1381 runs from 59 matches at an average of 26.55, including eight half-centuries.

The 30-year-old also offers a part-time spin option. Across domestic and franchise T20 competitions, he has taken 40 wickets with the ball, giving the side an additional bowling alternative.

Kingsmen Prepare for PSL Opener

Hyderabad Houston Kingsmen will begin their campaign in PSL 11 against Lahore Qalandars in the tournament’s opening match. The curtain-raiser is scheduled to take place at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on March 26.

The Kingsmen squad features a mix of local and overseas players, including Glenn Maxwell, Saim Ayub, Kusal Perera and Riley Meredith. Other members of the squad include Akif Javed, Maaz Sadaqat, Usman Khan, Mohammad Ali, Hassan Khan, Hammad Azam and Sharjeel Khan among others.

The franchise will be making its first appearance in the Pakistan Super League this season and will rely on Labuschagne’s leadership to guide the team through its debut campaign.
