IND vs WI 2nd Test Day 3: Kuldeep’s 5, Hope and Campbell Fight Back for West Indies

India started Day 3 with a confident grip on the match, but West Indies finally gave their supporters something to cheer about after a follow-on. Shai Hope and John Campbell gave the Indian bowlers a tough time. This is something that West Indian fans are missing from their side.

Campbell played with freedom, cutting and driving the ball carefully. His half-century was the first by a West Indian batter on this tour. This effort lifted the mood of the West Indian dressing room. Hope, meanwhile, looked good today too. He brings up his 1st fifty in 31 innings. That's not good, but it's a good sign for the West Indies.

Their stand played India’s spinners skillfully for most of the afternoon. Even as Jadeja tied one end down, Hope found the gaps to keep the scoreboard moving. Campbell wasn’t afraid to use his feet and played a proper cricketing shot to Kuldeep. He lofted Kuldeep over mid-on to break the pressure. It was smart and calm batting that West Indies desperately needed.

Earlier in the day, Kuldeep destroyed the WI batting line-up. He took 5 wickets, cleaning up the middle order with majestic bowling. From 155 for 3, they restricted them to only 248. Jadeja’s controlled bowling from the other end maintained the breeze.

India is continuously taking over the game right from day 1. Shubman Gill’s century and Yashasvi Jaiswal’s 175 gave them a match-winning total of 518 before the declaration. Nitish Reddy and Dhruv Jurel also supported the innings to give the visitors a tough target.

When West Indies came out to bat again, Athanaze and Chanderpaul were not effective at all. WI lost their 2 wickets at the score of 35. This was so disappointing for the team. But Hope and Campbell took charge and didn't give India any chance.

For the first time in the series, West Indies ended a day without losing further wickets. Their dressing now looked confident that they still have a chance in this match.

Yet, for the West Indies, this day belonged to Hope and Campbell. Both batters reminded everyone that pride still matters in Test cricket.
