The superstar duo of India, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, showcased their class against South Africa in the last ODI match. Virat’s stunning century exhibited his great fitness, while Rohit’s brisk fifty showcased his vintage form in batting. By looking at the performance of both stars, it looks certain that they will be available for India in the 2027 ODI World Cup in South Africa.
However, the current Indian batting head coach is not looking too far ahead. He said there is no reason to put extra pressure on them by trying to predict the future. He added that the team prefers to stay in the present and enjoy each match by giving their full commitment.
"I don't know why we need to look at all this - he's really batting well, and I don't see any reason we need to talk about his future," said Indian batting coach, Sitanshu Kotak.
"Just the way he's batting, it's just brilliant. The way he's performing, [and] his fitness - there are no questions about anything. I feel such things [the 2027 World Cup] shouldn't even be spoken about after the way he plays and performs. That is something which is two years away. There's no point talking about all this. For us, once the team arrives and we start practice, we just enjoy." added Sitanshu Kotak.
The batting coach also said that both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli share their experience with the youngsters. This is a trait that helps new players to develop quickly, as they learn plenty of things from the experience of both stars. He further stated that there is no discussion regarding the 2027 ODI World Cup in the team, as everyone is currently focused to win the South Africa series.
"Obviously, they do share their experience with others. I don't think we're talking anything about the 2027 World Cup. They are just brilliant, and they are performing. They are contributing to the team, which is a great thing for us." said Sitanshu Kotak.
Having both Virat and Rohit in the dressing room means a lot for the Indian team. Sitanshu further explained that their partnership in the last game was vital for the team, showcasing how a big knock can make a difference on the scoreboard.
"They are such experienced players; it's always great to have them. The way they bat - like today also, that partnership - it makes a huge difference. Obviously, they batted really well." said Sitanshu Kotak.
India will now take on South Africa in the 2nd ODI at Raipur. They will again need the prowess of Virat and Rohit in the upcoming match, as the performance of both players will give India an edge in the match. Fortunately, Virat Kohli is looking in good form, so fans can expect more runs from him in the next match, though South Africa is expected to come hard in Raipur to level the series.
