Virat Kohli Returns to the Summit of ODI Batting Rankings

Virat Kohli Returns to the Summit of ODI Batting Rankings

Virat Kohli has returned to No. 1 in the ICC men's ODI batting rankings. He replaced Rohit Sharma when India chased the 300 of New Zealand in the first of the series in Vadodara. The key to that victory was that Kohli scored 93 off 91 balls, and this lifted him to the top.

This marks the 11th time Kohli has held the top ICC ODI ranking since first achieving the feat in October 2013. With this update, he has been with No.1, the longest stay by an Indian batter. He is tenth on the all-time ranking. The list is topped by Vivian Richards, who held the position for 2,306 days.

Kohli has been exceptional in terms of his ODI performance. His previous four matches were 74, 135, 102, and 65 before the Vadodara match, and this indicates his mastery in the only international format that he is currently playing.

Rohit Slips As Tight Race Develops At The Top

Rohit Sharma lost the No. 1 position and dropped to No. 3 after getting 26 in the first ODI. Daryl Mitchell of New Zealand moved to second place with 84 off 71 balls.

Only a few points separate the three at the top. Kohli has 785, Mitchell has 784, and Rohit has 775. Another huge innings would alter the positions. KL Rahul also improved his position, having risen to No. 11 in lieu after scoring 29 off 21 balls, in his not-out performance.

Ashes Performances Reshape Test And T20I Rankings

Australia’s 4-1 Ashes win led to major changes in the test rankings in Australia. The best run-scorer, Travis Head, who had 629 runs, also shifted to position 3. After his 138 at the SCG, Steven Smith leaped to No. 4. The numbers one and two are Joe Root and Harry Brook.

Mitchell Starc recorded 31 wickets, but dropped to position 3 in the Test ranking. Scott Boland remained in seventh after picking 20 wickets. Wanindu Hasaranga has risen to second place in the T20Is bowling rankings, and Sahibzada Farhan has moved up the batting rankings to fifth place.
