The head coach of Afghanistan, Jonathan Trott, is proud of the effort his team showcased against South Africa in the recent T20 World Cup clash. He said the team performed exceptionally well in the last match, but the end result didn’t go in their favor.
Jonathan Trott believes Afghanistan can still turn things around in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, as they have two important games left. He urged the team to stay positive and not think too much about the recent defeat.
"I think that was a great snapshot. I'd prefer to talk about it (his time in charge) when it's done than talk about it now. We've still got two important games and I respect the side and the job, but also the two games we've got coming up are important as well. I don't think it's time to start talking about when I'm not in the position when I am still in the position.” said the head coach of Afghanistan, Jonathan Trott.
“I'd like to make sure I get that right and that we get it right. Hopefully this group can surprise a few people and we get a few losses somewhere along the line and we get ourselves back in. We've got to stay positive." added Jonathan Trott.
The head coach then applauded the talent of Rahmanullah Gurbaz, saying he is the kind of player who always plays with great passion for the team.
"He is a really great and talented cricketer. The innings as we saw today, I think he should play like that more often if I'm honest, with the amount of talent that he has and the physique and the sporting ability and natural hand-eye coordination." said Jonathan Trott
